Playlist for Thursday November 12th 2009

If you listen to my Thursday morning Breakfast with the Blues show very much you know that I generally like to play my favorite artists with a mixture of classic recordings, popular cuts and a sprinkling of new music. We’ve been getting so much great new (and some not so great) music in that its fun to dig through the blues cabinet to see what has arrived since my last show. This week highlights were a new release from Detroit jazz / blues drummer RJ Spangler “You know I can’t refuse” featuring a great cast of Detroit bluesmen including Bill Heid on keyboard. This is an excellent recording with great renditions of classic tunes of Sonny Boy Williamson, Willie Dixon Jimmy Weatherspoon and many others. I also enjoyed spinning the new Debbie Davies all instrumental album called Holdin’ Court, along with Pete Anderson’s “Even things up” and I’m looking forward to hearing more from the new CD from Quintus McCormick “Hey Jodie. So much new stuff… so little time.
With that said, let’s not forget some of the more solid classic recordings that set the bar and withstood the test of time.
How do you really pick a best or favorite recording for someone like BB King? I mean really. He’s produced so much good music over his career.
