Play List for Thursday December 18th 2008

I had the chance to revue a new CD from Dave Egan. I’m listening to this thing and thinking, wow this is good. Who is this guy? Come to find out after looking into it a little (thanks to Boogie King Steve) Dave Egan happens to be one hell of a prolific songwriter, and has written songs for scores of famous people. He has a terrific laid back style and his CD features great song and great musicianship. I also threw in a song off of Keith Crossan’s (Tommy Castro Band) new CD and a couple Christmas tunes from Ecko Records Christmas compilation CD. You have to be a little careful with Ecko’s stuff; sometimes they can get a little too suggestive for morning drive time play, but generally it all good. Boogie King Steve will be filling in for over the Holidays, so have a great Holiday and we’ll be throwing some more tunes at you next year.

Play List for Thursday December 4th 2008

I honestly didn’t have a plan for this show or have a lot of time to put much foresight into what I was going to play on the air. I generally try to come in better prepared because I think we owe to our listeners to put some effort into supplying them with a quality show. Unfortunately Thursday morning kind of snuck up on me. I did get a few positive calls and a nice e-mail, so the show must not have been a total debacle. With the recent news that Odetta had passed away, I knew that I needed to play some of her music. She was such a great person, and a huge influence on so many people. Bob Dylan credits her for turning him onto folk music. Think about that. Her voice and her music is so moving. Beyond that it was a fun morning of playing music from some of my favorites, thank goodness I have so many favorites to choose from.

Robert Cray / I guess I showed her
Charles Brown / Not so far
Danny Caron & Charles Brown / ESP Blues
Angela Strehli / Deja Blue
BB King / Darlin’ what happened
King Curtis / Soul serenade
Eden Brent / Nobody knows you when you’re down and out
Robben Ford / Mystic mile
Luther Tucker / Mean old world
Vaughan Brothers / Hard to be
Stevie Ray Vaughan / Riviera Paradise
Sue Foley / Me and my chauffer blues
Gatemouth Brown / Early in the morning
Cedric Burnside & Lightnin Malcolm / So much love
Joe Louis Walker / I’m not coming over
Odetta / Hard o Lord
Odetta / Believe I’ll go
Memphis Slim / Ridin’ on the blues train
Robin Rogers / Conjur man
Robin Rogers / Long John blues
Maria Muldaur / One hour mama
Eric Clapton / Love in vain
Dave Specter & Steve Freund / Too hot at home
Roxy Perry / Bed of blues
Johnnie Bassett / I’m gonna do what I’m gonna do
Craig Horton / Chest pain blues
