Play List for Thursday September 18th 2008

It seems we spend a lot of time searching for the next hot young artist, or the next undiscovered talent. When in fact there are so many great artists that we already know about that have recorded so many great songs. The funny thing is that all this great old stuff is what has inspired so many of the artists that are trying to be the next big thing. Sometimes it’s just fun to build a show around some of the many staples of this great music we call the blues.

Play List for Thursday September 4th 2008

There was really no pre-planning involved in putting this mornings show together. I knew I would start with the song “black-eyed peas” from Carey Bell’s very fine “Heartaches & Pain” CD, but beyond that I was flying by the seat of my pants so to speak. All in all I did manage to mix in some new material from the likes of Pinetop Perkins, James Hinkle, Fiona Boyes and Buddy Guy. I threw in some classic artist like Albert King, Charles Brown and Mississippi Fred McDowell. I Featured a few songs by some lesser know artists like Kathy Walker Gary Allegretto and Cathy Lemmons. Then I finished the show with some guitar laden songs from Lil’ Dave Thompson, Jimmy Thackery and Duke Robillard. I had fun, and judging from some listener feedback we did okay. Tune in next week. Who knows what we’ll be up to.
